Teachers and counselors are finally reforming their “college-only” messaging and are beginning to give apprenticeship the recognition it deserves. This means that the Training Center and Local 48 are receiving more invitations than ever to speak to high school classes or to host an informational table at career fairs.
Please help us represent apprenticeship at these events.
Ambassador 48 is a program that trains Local 48 apprentices and Journeymen to attend outreach events at local high schools and community centers. Ambassador 48 members contributed 322 hours of outreach in 2019. This would have been impossible to achieve without their help.
The Training Center provides Ambassadors with all materials needed for an event and a T-shirt when you sign up for your first event. Local 48 reimburses wages and the cash value of benefits for our members who attend events through the Ambassador 48 program if the event is scheduled during their regular straight-time work hours. Apprentices receive WPR hours for the hours they contribute.
We have two Career Fair Training sessions on the calendar — one on a Tuesday evening and one on a Saturday. You only need to attend one. The 2-hour session covers information about outreach events and how to answer questions and provide advice to potential applicants.
We hold these training sessions in late winter and in late summer, in preparation for heavy high school career fair demand. If you cannot make it to this one, there will be other opportunities later this year.
