LIMITED ENERGY-A TECHNICIAN
The Limited Energy Technician JATC offers a 3-½ year apprenticeship program, which combines both on the job and related classroom training. Oregon-Columbia Chapter NECA and IBEW Local 48 sponsor this program.

If accepted into the apprentice program, apprentices are assigned to an electrical contractor for a minimum of 6000 OJT hours; there is no guarantee of 40 hours per week. Apprentices will complete a total of 7 terms of school; classes meet at the NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center.
Scholarships are granted for successful completion of schooling and satisfactory on-the-job performance.
A general description of work performed on the job includes preparation, layout from prints, installation and repair of the following low energy systems:
- Voice, Data, Intercom, Nurse Call, Fire Alarm, Security, Paging, Audio/Visual, Controls
Apprentice wages are based on a percentage of the prevailing Limited Energy Technician rate ($49.66 per hour eff. 1/1/24) in addition to benefits.

Apprentices are advanced to the next period only when all advancement requirements have been met. Upon completion of all program requirements, apprentices are referred to take the Class A Limited Energy Technician exam.
Geographical area covered: Oregon Counties – Clatsop, Clackamas, Columbia, Hood River, Multnomah, Sherman, Tillamook, Wasco, Washington and Yamhill County north of section line T45, Washington Counties – Clark, Cowlitz, Klickitat, Wahkiakum, and Skamania.
